National Debt has been passed on to us? What do you think?

The US is a republic, not a democracy. You gave permission through your elected representative. Your direct input was not required. I agree that the debt situation is ridiculously out of control. Over 70% of the budget is split between social security, mediauto auto insurancee, defense and interest payable on the national debt. Of course these are all programs that noone wants to cut. The only chance we have is to get the jobs back so the tax revenues go up. To do that we need to implement policies which make it unprofitable for companies to use out of country labor. We also need to put a tariff on imports to the point where American companies can compete using American labor. As it is, any company that uses American labor is at a significant competitive disadvantage. Without a tariff, then the only way companies located in the US could compete with China or India would be for worker pay and benefits in the US to be comparable to pay and benefits in China or the next country that comes along offering labor at cellar prices. Only a few companies benefit from current trade policies. While I earlier said we are a republic, that is true only in the way we govern. In truth, we are a country ruled by corporations who provide the funds to the candidates to get elected. The members in Congress should be wearing corporate logos on their suits because that is who they truly represent.
